Hiking

Cape Fear River Trail– Enjoy over 5.3 miles of scenic trail perfect with amazing views of the river for hiking along with a boardwalk for bike riding.

Carver’s Creek State Park– For those of you who live on the opposite side of town, indulge in a hike in Carver’s Creek State Park located in Spring Lake. Paths are pretty flat and easy to walk as you enjoy some of the historical sites like the Rockefeller Home which was a Summer home to a Rockafeller family member and the pond ( which is drained at the moment for repairs). With over 4,000 acres there plenty to explore. Be sure to stop by the ranger station and pick up a map.

Raven Rock Park- This park is located in Harnett County in Lillington not too far from the Linden Oaks area of Fort Bragg. There are tons of trails and beautiful scenic landmarks. Some people even use these trails to horseback ride.

Ziplining

Zip Quest- Until I went there, I had no idea that a ziplining place much less the most beautiful scenery was right behind Ramsey St. It is where you can make all your ziplining dreams come true at Zipquest. Where you can zip high in the sky over treetops and waterfalls.  There are 5 zip lines and prices start at around $55+ and you can even rent a Go Pro to record yourself. Sometimes they place deals on Groupon as well. Be sure to make a reservation ahead of time.

Fishing

There are tons of fishing spots in and around Fayetteville, but if you want to get away from base check out the below:

Campbellton Landing (Riverside)– A gem located in Fayetteville off of Person street is an amazing place to go fishing in the Cape Fear River. Expect to catch catfish and Largemouth Bass plus more. Pricing starts around $5 for boat access and free bank fishing.

Jordan Lake– is located just outside of Sanford ( for our Harnett County folks).  You can fish at the damn off Jordan Lake and its free with 24-hour access. Expect to catch sunfish, bream, catfish shad and more.

Camping

Fayetteville RV Resort-Just PCS’ed and went to live a bit differently, or want to enjoy the outdoors a bit with the family? Head on to the Fayetteville RV Resort and enjoy a cottage or rent an RV from Fort Bragg MWR and enjoy some time at this local RV resort. Prices are affordable and based upon the season. There’s pools, sports, putt-putt golf, complimentary waffles, walking trails and it’s pet-friendly.

Smith Lake Camping Grounds– Offers several camping options including cabins and RV spots. However, if you want to rough it this is one of the only places in the area we could find that will let you pitch a tent. Pricing is inexpensive as well.

Jordan Lake: Poplar Point– I’d be remiss not to put this one here again as it’s only about a 45-minute drive and we just went camping there this weekend. We did tent camping which is only $23 per night and was able to book a spot right on the lake. With over 14,000 acres you will love being one with nature as you sit around the campfire in this beautifully scenic state park. Amenities include fire pits, grill, picnic table and lantern holders.

Indoor Skydiving

Paraclete Indoor Skydiving- Want to let your inner paratrooper come out? Try Indoor Skydiving at Paraclete as they teach you the perfect body form to fly without a parachute or having to jump out of a plane. The best part is anyone can do it starting at age 3 and up, so it’s fun for the whole family. Located on the Fayetteville/Raeford border— this is another local fun spot!
