If you live in or have ever visited New York State in late summer, you know the place to be for Labor Day, is “The Fair”! If you’re in Fort Drum, you will want to read this.
The Great New York State Fair is held in Syracuse New York and hosts over a million people. The event will take place this year from August 22, 2018 to September 3, 2018.
This 13-day event is jam packed with attractions, food, competitions, and even concerts. I don’t mean just anybody’s brother’s concert. I’m talking about artists like: Ludacris, ZZ Top, Pentatonix and so many others!
The amusements, attractions and rides are out of this world! The rides are open for small children, all the way to full sized adults. Circus Hollywood will be here to entertain you once again, with their dare devil stunts and outrageous acts! There are face painters, Animals shows, petting zoos, and so much you can’t possibly see all in one day!
There will be a few contests that you won’t want to miss! This year the Fair has pulled out all the stops! They are hosting the “Taste New York Food Truck Competition”. This contest will be held the 1st and 2nd of September, and will feature over 40 Food Trucks. Samples will cost $3 and voting will be done via text! The New York State Fair Drone Film Festival will be screened on the 26th of August. There are eight category entries for this contest. The winner will receive a medal and a new drone!
If you are dying to try some authentic New York flavor, this fair is your location destination! With over 40 food vendors, cooking their way into your heart, come ready to indulge in some of the most unique and flavorful cuisine New York has to offer!
Armed Forces Day is August 30th. Free admission will be given to those with a DoD ID Card or Veteran Military ID. A coupon booklet can be printed, prior to visiting the fair. Just Click Here for money saving coupons during your visit to The Fair.
A Few Tips for Your Visit.
As with any outdoor place you visit, be prepared for changes in the weather. Here in New York, the weather can go from cool and windy to blazing heat, in the blink of an eye. Bring Sunscreen and an umbrella. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. You will be standing, sitting, or walking for hours. You definitely want to make sure you are wearing something flexible and comfortable, and for kids, something easy enough to get on and off for potty time! Bring cash. If you don’t want to stand in long ATM lines or wait for credit cards machines to process your payment, be prepared. Because I have small children, I already carry a diaper bag, but if you don’t, consider bringing a small package of baby wipes, some hand sanitizer, and a soft pack of Kleenex. These items will save you a lot of time and possibly even some money.
Whether you are a fair loyalist, or this is your first-time patronizing, your experience will be tastefully stimulating and unique! There is something for everyone!
Enjoy your experience at The Great New York State Fair!
